Peruvian Causa
Causa is a delicious and traditional Peruvian dish that’s perfect for any occasion! Here’s a simple recipe for you to try:
Ingredients:
– 4 medium-sized potatoes (in South America we use yellow potatoes, but any starchy potato would do)
– 1 lime (juice)
– 3 tablespoons aji amarillo (yellow chili ground)
– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
– Salt to taste
– 1 can of tuna (drained) or shredded chicken
– 1 avocado (sliced)
– Mayonnaise (to taste)
– Hard-boiled eggs (for garnish)
– Olives (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Boil the potatoes until tender. Peel and mash them in a bowl.
2. Mix the mashed potatoes with lime juice, aji amarillo, vegetable oil, and salt until smooth.
3. In another bowl, combine the tuna or chicken with mayonnaise. Season to taste.
4. In a serving dish, layer half of the potato mixture, then add the tuna/chicken mixture, followed by avocado slices. Top with the remaining potato mixture.
5. Garnish with sliced hard-boiled eggs and olives.
6. Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Enjoy your homemade causa! 🍽️
Of course this is the basic idea, you are free to explore as many variations as you could think of. There are no rules that cannot be broken. In fact, each Peruvian professional or home chef would have their own versions.
